The Right Honourable Stephen Harper
Prime Minister of Canada

Dear Sir,

We, the signatories, are aware of the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial mismanagement of the First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) in Regina.

We believe that the survival of FNUC is vital for the expansion and diversity of the Canadian cultural mosaic, and this unique institution should continue to function for the benefit of not only Canada but also of the world. Moreover, we maintain that FNUC is a crucial venue for raising the educational standards of the Canada-wide aboriginal community.

We oppose measures that may compromise FNUC's operations, such as the curtailing of funds which would probably lead to its closure. We believe a solution acceptable to all parties can be reached by addressing the problem of "mismanagement" through the co-operation of the Federal and Saskatchewan governments, and the  Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

Efforts to guarantee the continued operations of FNUC is a Canadian moral duty and a just cause.

Respectfully,

Professors join "live-in"

REGINA (30 March 2010) - Approximately 20 University of Regina professors rolled out their sleeping bags and pillows on Monday to join a so-called live-in by students and staff at the troubled First Nations University of Canada.

Faculty members and students have been living in a student association office at the aboriginal-run institution since last week as a way to press Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl to reinstate millions of dollars in federal funding.
